Welcome to the Self-Replicating Landscape

The Land of the Sirens Public Program is the educational project conceived for the Donnaregina Foundation for contemporary arts by Villa Lontana Records - a record label that since 2019 has focused on the production of new sounds, from electroacoustics to sound poetry and field recordings, and Terraforma - international music festival dedicated to artistic experimentation and sustainability -, which aims to explore themes related to myth, landscape and tradition, through an innovative sound approach.
With this program, Madre, the contemporary art museum of the Campania region, plays its role as an 'incubator' for one of the nine projects into which Spaziale is divided. Everyone belongs to everyone else, Italian Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, promoted by the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and curated by Fosbury Architecture.

Librino as a stage is a project carried out by the Associazione Musicale Etnea association in collaboration with the Ortigia Sound System association, funded and promoted by the Ministry of Culture through the Periferie: Stage Catania, beauty without borders call. The planned activities will see the neighborhood transformed into a stage open to the entire city. During the day (Sept. 24) we will explore Librino through commonly unknown paths that define places where performances and site-specific installations come to life.

Radical Laisure will address the more complex intertwining of landscape, automation, and radical visions of leisure spaces. Starting with the BELVEDERE RN-M-G-M/G-CLT UNI EN 13163:2013 activation, which suggests a recreational use of nursery landscapes, the meeting will explore the meaning of such an operation, reflecting from the radical visions of humanity free from work, present in Superstudio, Gruppo 9999 etc. These groups, born at a specific moment that saw the blurring of the boundary between art and architecture, accompany us in asking how to intertwine, to this day, these two disciplines in determining the way we experience leisure. Can we think of techno-ecology as a frontier to reestablish its political and social role?

The series of three events organized by Abnormal, Captcha and Emilio Vavarella in collaboration with the Pecci Center and the Urban Center of Prato, from the project BELVEDERE RN-M-G-M/G-Clt. UNI EN 13163:2013 investigates the relationship between landscape and its production processes. The first meeting entitled AfterLeisure: architecture or politics? proposes a reflection on the consequence of the disneyfication brought by tourism to the scale of the landscape. We ask what scenarios we should strive toward, focusing on the concept of replication and the profound theoretical implications to which it can lead, trying to identify useful tools to subvert it. How can professional and artistic practices, institutions and politics work toward the construction of a more conscious contemporary horizon?

The talk organized on the occasion of #estatealMAXXIaq, moderated by Pippo Ciorra - Senior Curator MAXXI Architettura is dedicated to narrate and discuss the experience of UCCELLACCIO, the project for the unfinished hospital in Ripa Teatina (CH), with protagonists the HPO collective and writer Claudia Durastanti as advisor. Uccellaccio is one of nine site-specific interventions created for the Italian Pavilion, curated by Fosbury Architecture, on the occasion of the 18th. International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia. For the first time, the exhibition plays an active role in the production of pioneering projects, allowing the Italian Pavilion to scale back, expanding across the country.

Sot Glas (sot from Friulian ‘under’ and glas from Slovenian ‘voice’) is a sound and light installation, conceived by Ana Shametaj and Giuditta Vendrame. It reactivates the five hundred meters of underground tunnels of Kleine Berlin: an anti-raid shelter in Trieste. A place of refuge, dark as the unconscious of the history of the communities that have lived in this borderland region. Sot Glas addresses and interrogates the notion of political border by looking at music as a trespass, a landscape. The sound dramaturgy reinterprets cross-border folk songs and invites visitors to get lost in a physical, linguistic and musical labyrinth.
